#Jaaga Beku: Bangalore Traffic Police On Mission To Remove Encroachments; Warns Violators Of ‘Serious Action’

To reduce traffic congestion in the city, the Bangalore Traffic Police has begun the process of clamping down on illegal encroachments that obstruct the free flow of traffic, reports Bangalore Mirror.
In the first phase, it has removed the encroachment of space on the service road by Lumbini Gardens in Nagavara. Speaking on the same, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), P Harisekaran said, “Lumbini Gardens has encroached five feet from its entrance on service road of Outer Ring Road. On being asked to act, they immediately cleared the encroachment in the presence of police officers.”
The drive to clear encroachments will also be conducted across important roads in the city like Hebbal flyover to Tumakuru Road through BEL Road, Town Hall to Kengeri, Bannerghatta Road, St John’s Circle to Anekal, KR Puram to Mahadevpura Road and ITPL. Noting that this time around, the guilty will be sternly dealt with, Harisekaran stated, “If violators don’t pay heed to police request, they will be dealt with seriously. Apart from booking a case (Karnataka Police Act), we will prepare a report with video and photo evidence and send it to the BBMP and the BDA seeking demolition.”
Illegal encroachment is a serious problem in Bengaluru. It was reported that around 20 per cent of lake areas in the city have been occupied illegally. Even government land, worth around Rs 16,000 crore, has been encroached upon through fraudulent practices.
