Kerala: 32 New Covid-19 Cases, CM Claims Migrant Labour Protests Instigated by ‘Some Evil Minds’ To Tarnish The State

As many as 32 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Kerala on Monday taking the total number of cases in the state to 234, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Out of the cases reported today, the state’s northern tip Kasaragod which has been in the news for its battle with neighbouring state over sealed borders, has 17 while its neighbouring district Kannur has 11.

Seventeen of them had returned from foreign countries and 15 got the disease via contact with infected people. As of Monday, 126 people have been hospitalised hospitalised. Of the 6,991 blood samples sent for COVID-19 testing, 6,031 were negative.

On the protest by the migrant labourers across the state, Pinarayi Vijayan claimed that it was instigated by ‘some evil minds’ who want to tarnish the progress made by Kerala in the fight against COVID-19.

The jump in new Covid-19 positive cases takes the total in Kasaragod to 107 which is way higher than the total number of cases in the entire state of Karnataka.

The number of Covid-19 positive cases in Karnataka rose by five today, with four in Mysuru and one in Tumkuru. All new cases are contacts of earlier reported cases, with the total of 88 cases in which 80 are active, five recovered and three deceased.

Dakshina Kannada which has been under a complete lockdown for the past two days shutting even the basic essentials. This also earned the ire of Kasaragod and Kerala for sealing its borders prohibitng the entry of ambulances too. But in the last two days, no new cases were reported.

Of the six cases that are currently being treated, five are residents of Kasaragod. Meanwhile, Member of Parliament from Kasaragod Rajmohan Unnithan has filed a petition in the Supreme Court asking the apex court to direct Karnataka to open its borders and allow the movement of ambulances and other vehicles.

“The people of Kasaragod in Kerala rely entirely upon the medical facilities of Mangalore district in the state of Kartnataka and its adjacent area,” reads the petition, which has alleged that this act of the State of Karnataka of closing the roads including National Highways is unconstitutional and against the federal structure of the country.
