Haasan has named his political party Makkal Needhi Maiam, which translates to People’s Justice Party, announcing it at the Othakadi ground in Madurai. Haasan also hoisted the party flag at the event.
Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal, whose Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is embroiled in yet another crisis in Delhi, was also present at the event. Kejriwal was also invited to speak after the party’s name was announced. AAP MLAs have been accused of assaulting Delhi’s Chief Secretary, an IAS officer, at the CM’s minister yesterday (20 February). An AAP MLA has since been arrested in the matter.
Earlier, an LED screen erected at the venue, collapsed under heavy winds as the rally was going on.
DMK leader MK Stalin too had dismissed the party calling it a ‘paper flower’ compared to DMK which he called a ‘banyan tree’.
Tamil superstar Rajnikanth too has announced his entry into the state’s politics, but Haasan has said that the two superstars will follow different political paths.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
