Next Four Years To See 5000 New Startups: Atal Innovation Mission To Set Up Incubators Across The Country

NDA government's flagship scheme, AIM (Atal Innovation Mission) plans to launch 5,000 new startups in the next four years, as reported by Business Standard. According to R Ramanan, Mission Director of the mission, these startups will come from the incubators that AIM plans to set up in various higher-education institutions across the country.
“We are setting up 100s of world-class incubators in universities and institutions across the country. We have launched 101 incubators of which 30 are operational already, and the rest will be operational by the end of next year,” he mentioned. He added that each incubator would be allocated Rs.100 million (Rs 10 crores) to provide funding to promising startups.
AIM was set up as an umbrella organisation that aims to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country. In line with this objective, AIM has set up Atal Tinkering Labs in hundreds of schools of the country to encourage students to get acquainted with emerging technologies like 3D Printing, Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Miniaturised electronics.
Atal New India Challenges and Atal Grand Challenges have also been launched that serve to support technology-driven innovations and product creation for social and commercial impact.
