Amidst the ongoing junior doctor strike in West Bengal, staff members of the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital have claimed that senior leaders of the ruling Trinamool dispensation threatened to kill them if the strike was not lifted, Hindustan Times has reported.

The doctors also claimed that they were abused by the Trinamool leaders in the altercation which happened on Thursday night (13 June). The Murshidabad Trinamool MP Abu Taher Khan though denied the allegations and claimed that the doctors were being instigated to continue the protest.

Khan though has himself been seen screaming at the agitating doctors and can be heard vowing to “send people” purportedly to deal with the doctors.

Earlier it was reported that a number of women doctors had received rape threats from Trinamool goons during the agitation demanding better security for medical professionals in the state.

In total over 700 senior government doctors resigned from their posts on Friday (14 June) to show solidarity with their junior colleagues.

The medical fraternity has also received support from AIIMS Delhi and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) with the latter calling for a nationwide protest on Monday (17 June).
