As devotees brace the lathi charge and stone pelting by Kerala police force in their protest against the Sabarimala judgment, people from neighbouring island nation have shown solidarity with the protests.

Sri Lankan pilgrims expressed their discontent against the Supreme Court's verdict by sloganeering and marched a 3-km-distance, demanding that the temple be allowed to continue its rules and regulations.

The Supreme Court verdict came as a shock to several devotees who dubbed it as undue and discriminatory state-interference in their personal beliefs. The protests in India as well as Sri Lanka saw huge participation from women devotees, a move dubbed as ‘surprising’.

Every year a minimum of hundred devotees from Vavuniya district, Sri Lanka come to to pay a visit to the Sabarimala temple in Kerala.

The protesters ended the rally by handing over a request letter to the government agent of Vavuniya district. They have requested Sri Lankan government to intervene through the Indian embassy and convey their message condemning the Supreme Court order, as reported by India Today.
