Lal Bahadur Shastri
Tashkent Files, a Vivek Agnihotri directed political thriller based on the Tashkent Agreement between India and Pakistan after the 1965 war revolves around the mysterious death of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1966.
The movie which was released ten days ago despite running in limited theatres with 160 screens has managed to raked in a total of Rs 4.75 crore.
Tarun Adarsh a film critic and journalist praised the movie for going from strength to strength in the box office despite its limited distribution.
The movie stars Naseeruddin Shah, Pallavi Joshi, Shweta Basu, Pankaj Tripathi, Mithun Chakraborty and Vinay Pathak in main roles.
In its second week, the film has earned 50 lakhs on Friday and 75 lakhs on Saturday respectively. It grossed 3.75 crores in the first week of its release.
The movie is India’s first crowd-sourced thriller and is an apolitical film about a political leader. During the making of the film, Vivek Agnihotri reportedly invited suggestions from the public to help him solve the mystery of Shastri’s murder.
