The UPSC Civil Services 2019 Prelims result which was held on 2 June is expected be declared around 10 July on UPSC’s official website, as per various online portals.

The cut-off for this year’s mains exam is expected to be higher than 2018, thereby bucking the three year trend wherein the cut-off marks were witnessing a decline.

Despite the prelims paper being considered the toughest in the last five years, the cut-off is expected to increase to over 100 marks for general category with a rough estimate being pegged at 105 .

In 2016 the cutoff was 116 out of 200 marks, in 2017 it declined to 105 in 2017 and 98 in 2018.

Despite the expected rise in cutoffs, various experts and IAS teachers have advised all the students who are expected to score above 90 marks to start preparation for the Mains exam which will be held on 20 September.

This year’s question paper tested the core concepts of the candidates as opposed to previous years in which traditional questions and topics like polity, geography and modern history dominated.
