BJP MP Tapir Gao.
BJP MP Tapir Gao from Arunachal Pradesh made a startling claim before the Lok Sabha yesterday (19 November), stating that China had aggressively pushed some 50-60 km deep into Indian territory in his state.
Gao began by highlighting how China on a number of recent occasions had rasied objections when senior dignitaries like President Ram Nath Kovind, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had visited the state on separate occasions.
He detailed a number of areas of the state where the purported Chinese incursions had taken place. Pointing to the gravity of the situation, he said that another Doklam like incident could possibly take place in the state in the future.
This is not the first time that such a claim has been made about Chinese incursions deep into Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh. Earlier, defence analyst Abhiit Iyer Mitra had also asserted that satellite imagery showed how China had constructed a road well inside the state.
The report was denied by the Indian Army, which had claimed that no such incursion had taken place.
