Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has formalised a contract to construct a dedicated skywalk linking the Phase I and Phase II stations at Vadapalani, aimed at providing commuters with a seamless inter-line transfer experience.
The agreement was signed in the presence of CMRL’s Director (Projects) and Chief General Manager – T & EC, and contractor M/s Kousic & Co.
The project, valued at Rs 8.12 crore excluding GST, is scheduled to be completed within 120 days.
It will create a direct fare-controlled passage between the two stations, eliminating the need for additional ticketing and allowing passengers to transfer quickly without exiting and re-entering the system.
Once operational, the skywalk will offer a safer and fully weather-protected route for passengers.
Last week, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) had appointed consultants to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for two new corridors, a 7 km extension of Corridor 4 from Lighthouse to High Court, and a 21 km Tambaram–Guindy–Velachery link.
The Corridor 4 extension, running along Marina Beach, will enhance access to the Secretariat and nearby areas, benefiting both commuters and tourists.
The Tambaram–Guindy–Velachery route will connect southern suburbs such as Medavakkam and Pallikaranai with Corridor 1 at Guindy, improving network reach.
