The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced a significant breakthrough in the construction of Metro Line 4, with the successful installation of all precast structures along the 6.9 km elevated stretch between Majiwada and Kasarvadavali in Thane.

The stretch, which forms part of Phase 1 of the corridor, covers six stations — Kapurbawdi, Manpada, Tikujiniwadi, Dongripada, Vijay Garden, and Kasarvadavali. The final U-girder was recently placed, marking the completion of a technically demanding stage of the project.

According to MMRDA, the section posed considerable challenges due to heavy traffic movement, limited working space, and the presence of multiple underground and overground utilities.

The agency noted that the erection involved both pre-tensioned U-girders and I-girders, which had to be transported and installed with precision in a congested urban environment.

Adding to this progress, the first trial train for Metro Line 4 and its extension, Line 4A, has arrived in Thane.

The coaches were transported to Anand Nagar and lowered onto the tracks using heavy-duty cranes, paving the way for trial operations expected to begin by September.

The initial trial run will span 10 km between Cadbury and Gaimukh, covering ten stations including Majiwada, Kapurbawdi, Manpada, Tikuji Ni Wadi, and Kasarvadvali.

An interim depot with inspection pits has been set up beyond Gaimukh terminal, as the permanent depot at Mogharpada is still under construction.

Metro Line 4 will eventually stretch 32.3 km from Wadala to Kasarvadvali with 30 elevated stations, while its 2.7 km extension, Line 4A, will further extend services up to Gaimukh, strengthening connectivity across Mumbai’s eastern corridor and Thane.
