Air travel in Bihar is set to improve significantly, with the Purnia Airport nearing completion.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has confirmed that the airport’s construction will be wrapped up by 5 September, paving the way for flight bookings to commence from 1 September, Jagran reported.

Located close to the Indian Air Force airbase at Chunapur, around 10 km from Purnia town, the airport is scheduled to begin commercial services to Delhi and Kolkata under the Centre’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) regional connectivity scheme.

Officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said work on the interim terminal building has entered its final phase, with finishing touches now underway.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the airport on 15 September, when he will flag off the first commercial service from the facility.

Ahead of the inauguration, Deputy CM Chaudhary inspected the site on Friday alongside Union Minister Lallan Singh, JDU National Working President Sanjay Jha, and State Minister Leshi Singh.

The leaders reviewed ongoing construction and issued instructions to AAI and district officials to expedite the remaining work.

“The work must be completed by September 5th,” Chaudhary directed. Officials assured him that the work will be completed by September 5 at any cost.

The interim terminal has been designed to handle significant passenger traffic, with six check-in counters, two hand baggage scanners, and one conveyor belt in the security hold area.

The facility aims to provide seamless operations even during peak travel hours.
