As Bhopal readies itself for the rollout of its first Metro services in October, preparations have entered the final phase with the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) set to conduct inspections before granting the mandatory safety certification, The Free Press Journal reported.

According to officials, the CMRS will make two separate visits to the state capital. The first will focus on the Metro depot and rolling stock, while the second will examine the stations and passenger facilities.

Only after these inspections will the final certification be issued, paving the way for operations to begin.

In the run-up to the visits, various departments have been asked to submit detailed reports online to the CMRS.

“Departments such as the Civil Department, Signalling Department, and Telecom Department are required to upload their reports online for the CMRS,” an official from the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation said.

Many of these submissions have already been made, raising expectations that the first inspection could take place soon.

Meanwhile, Metro officials have been working round the clock to meet deadlines. Senior management is carrying out regular reviews of progress on the ground.

On Saturday (30 August), Metro Corporation Managing Director S Krishna Chetanya conducted an inspection and expressed confidence that all the work will be completed on time.

A day later, Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Sanjay Dubey, also toured the sites to take stock of the ongoing work.
