Responding to Chief Minister MK Stalin’s remarks made a few days ago in an interview, in which he said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would not be able to win a single seat in the state if it contested alone, BJP state president K Annamalai said that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had never come to power on its own in the state.

He said that right from 1967, i.e., the first time the DMK came to power till the 2021 Assembly elections, the DMK had always come to power with an alliance. For the 2021 elections, the DMK had allied with 12 parties.

Among the 12 parties, the Congress and the Left parties are the biggest. Smaller parties include the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

Adding that alliances are no guarantees of victory, he said that the DMK had lost quite a few times in spite of alliances.

He added that the BJP has contested elections alone in the past and would not hesitate to do so again. Further, he said that Stalin should forget his ambition of becoming a deputy Prime Minister because Narendra Modi would be re-elected in 2024.

Ending his series of tweets, he challenged Stalin to contest elections alone.
