The Lok Sabha approved a resolution on Thursday (14 December) to suspend five Congress MPs for the rest of the Winter session. This action was taken after the Speaker named them for causing disruptions in the House proceedings.

In the midst of uproar, Pralhad Joshi, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, proposed a resolution to suspend five members of the Congress party. The suspended members include TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, and Dean Kuriakose Kuryakus.

The resolution proposed that the House, having noted the "misconduc"t of Congress MPs, which showed "utter disregard" for the House and the authority of the Chair, and having been identified by the Chair, should be suspended from the House's service for the remainder of the session.

Four of these MPs are from Kerala, while Jothimani represent Karur in Tamil Nadu. The proceedings were being chaired by B Mahtab, LiveMint reported.

Members of the opposition in the Lok Sabha vigorously protested, insisting on a statement from the government regarding a security breach in the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, Speaker Om Birla emphasised that the Lok Sabha Secretariat is responsible for ensuring the security of the Parliament complex.

The moment the Lower house of Parliament convened for the day during the current Winter Session, members of the Opposition immediately began to call for a statement from the government regarding the security breach, accompanied by vocal protests.

During the Question Hour, which lasted approximately 15 minutes, at least two main inquiries along with their additional related questions were addressed.

Earlier, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien was suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the current session due to his "unruly behaviour".
