Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien has been suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the current session due to his "unruly behaviour".

This comes after the winter session of the Parliament was resumed after the major security breach in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

O'Brien insisted on a debate regarding the incident, in which two men jumped from the visitors' gallery in to the Lok Sabha and set off yellow smoke canisters.

A furious Rajya Sabha Chair, Jagdeep Dhankhar, named the politician from Bengal and ordered him to exit the House immediately.

"Derek O'Brien is named to leave the House immediately... Derek O'Brien says he will defy the Chair... Derek O'Brien says he will not respect the rules. This is a serious misconduct. This is a shameful incident," Dhankhar said, removing the Trinamool leader for "disorderly conduct".

Even after being warned, O'Brien along with other dissenting MPs persisted in their protest, insisting that Union Home Minister Amit Shah be in attendance in the House to answer for the previous day's incident.

The Rajya Sabha was then adjourned, but before the adjournment of the Upper House, Dhankhar reassured the MPs that a high-level investigation into the security breach was underway and a police case had been filed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting with senior ministers today to deliberate on the breach as he was not present in the Parliament yesterday owing to his participation in the oath-taking cermonies of new Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh chief ministers.

At least six people were involved in the smoke scare inside and outside Parliament yesterday; two men popped smoke canisters in the Lok Sabha and a man and a woman did so outside. All four have been arrested, as have a husband and wife who sheltered them at their Gurgaon home.
