Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai challenged leaders of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) to declare all their assets and sources of income.

This comes after Excise Minister V Senthil Balaji asked him to provide the receipt for a 'Rafale watch' worn by Annamalai.

The Rafale watch that Annamalai wears is a limited edition watch made by a French company on the occasion of the handover of the Rafale fighter jets to India. It contains parts that were used in the making of the aircraft.

Balaji asked as to how could Annamalai, who claims to own just four goats, afford to buy a limited edition watch that purportedly cost Rs 5 lakh.

Responding to this, Annamalai said that the watch was bought by him prior to becoming the state president and as the DMK had accused him of corruption, he would voluntarily declare all his assets and sources of income in the next few days. He added that he would also soon put out his lifetime income tax returns in the public domain.

He added that while the watch was not 'Made in India', he still loves to wear it as a nationalist as the Rafale fighter jets had strengthened the country's security.

Recently, CTR Nirmal Kumar, the head of the IT wing of the state unit of the BJP had alleged that Balaji was involved in the sale of liquor at 10 per cent above the maximum retail price through the state-owned Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited outlets, and the ruling party was benefiting from this to the tune of 13 crore per day.

Prior to this, the Supreme Court had restored a case filed against him in a recruitment scam that happened during his tenure as a minister in the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government.
