Bahrain has decided to recall its ambassador from Israel and suspend economic ties with Tel Aviv, according to an announcement made by the country's parliament on Thursday (2 November), Arab News reported.
The statement, which was published on the Bahraini parliament website, confirmed that the Israeli ambassador has already left Bahrain, while Bahrain has initiated the process of recalling its ambassador from Israel.
The decision to recall the ambassador and suspend economic relations is rooted in Bahrain's unwavering and historic support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Additionally, Bahrain has chosen to suspend all economic relations with Israel. This comes three years after the two nations signed the Abraham Accords to officially establish diplomatic relations.
Back in September 2020, Bahrain, along with the UAE, signed the Abraham Accord with Israel in the United States, hosted by then-President Donald Trump.
The primary objective of the accord was to normalise relations between these Arab nations and Israel, later extending to include Sudan and Morocco.
These US-brokered agreements aimed to secure broader recognition of Israel in the Arab world, resulting in trade deals and military cooperation with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates commencing in 2020.
