Kozhikode district court lifted the ban on playing Varaha Roopam song from the movie Kantara.
Kerala band Thaikudam Bridge had sought legal action against the makers for allegedly copying one of their songs Navarasam.
The court passed this interim order citing a lack of jurisdiction.
The musical angle: Both Navarasam and Varaha Roopam are based on Todi Ragam (the Carnatic version).
Todi is an old raga in the Carnatic tradition and it is normal for songs based on the same raga to sound similar.
The similarity emerges a lot more in the instrumental section of Varaha Roopam, which corresponds to the solkattu section βDhim thakid dhi thi thaiβ of Navarasam.
