1. 📰 Catch up

  • A new leaked video showed Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain getting an elaborate meal in Tihar jail after his lawyer claimed of him having lost 28 kgs.

  • A letter surfaced where Shraddha Walkar complained to Maharashtra police in 2020 that her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala tried to kill her and she feared he would cut her into pieces and throw her away.

  • BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari skipped the oath-taking ceremony of the new Bengal Governor Dr CV Ananda Bose over "humiliation" in seat allocation.

  • Aaditya Thackeray arrived in Patna to meet Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, said "this friendship will continue".

  • Sixth Vande Bharat Express to hit the track in December; Railways likely to miss target of running 75 such trains by August 2023.

  • 2. ❌ Flawed global indices

    Sanjeev Sanyal shared his paper

The paper investigates three opinion-based indices: Freedom in the World Index, EIU- Democracy Index and V-DEM. (Read details here.)

    • It comes in the backdrop of India's 'poor performances' in recent global indices on democracy and freedom.

  • It is authored by member of EAC-PM Sanjeev Sanyal and deputy director of EAC-PM Aakanksha Arora.

  • The analysis: EAC-PM finds four "serious problems" in methodologies of these indices:

    • These indices are primarily based on the opinions of a tiny group of unknown “experts”.

  • The questions that are used are subjective and are worded in a way that is impossible to answer objectively even for a country, let alone compare across countries.

  • There are questions that should be asked but are excluded. For example, it is never asked if the head of state is elected for a democracy index.

  • Certain questions used by these indices are not an appropriate measure of democracy across all countries.

  • 3. 📘 India, Bharat And Pakistan

The cover of J Sai Deepak's book.

The second book of J Sai Deepak's trilogy takes direct aim at the origins of the two-nation theory.

    • In a total of nine chapters, the first chapter titled The Seeds of Pakistan focuses on the roots of Muslim separatism in the ideas of Wahhab and Dehlawi.

  • The book also looks at the roles played by Syed Ahmed Khan and his Aligarh movement in fanning the separatist sentiment among Muslims.

  • Why it's a must-read: It corrects a key aspect of doctored and “secular” history, which places the blame for the country’s partition on Congress politics and the rise of Mohammed Ali Jinnah alone.

    • Based on strong research, it provides effective counters to the bogus “secular” history of the Left-liberal dispensation.

  • It is a must-read both for those who believe that Bharat is a civilisational state, and also for those who believe that India became a real nation-state because of political unification under the British, and the secular sahebs who ruled us after 1947.

  • 5. 🙏 Official image of Karnataka Maate

    Karnataka Maate - Official Image

It's official! The Karnataka government has finalised the above image as the official depiction of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, revered as Mother Kannada.

    • It was finalised by a five-member committee to ensure one official image as representing the ‘Naadadevate’ and now will be used for all official purposes.

  • An official image was needed because most images 'looked like calendar art, distant from the rich art tradition of the state and were far from reflecting the uniqueness of Karnataka‘.

  • The image is created by renowned artist K Somashekhar.

    • The map of the state features as the background of the image and the Kannada flag stands for Kannada pride.

  • The green saree reflects the state’s ecological wealth and flora and fauna.

  • The Goddess is two armed - to keep her as close to reality and her facial expression is one of natural beauty and divinity.
