Woman Killed By ‘Friend’ Over Suspicion That She Was Seeing Another Colleague, Murder Carried Out Using Scissors

Adding to the ever-rising list of murders of Hindu women in interfaith relationships with Muslim men, a woman was murdered using a pair of scissors by a man in New Delhi yesterday.
The woman, Jharna, was 37. Her killer, Chand Alam, is said to be 26. Both were separately married; Jharna had two children.
The woman’s body was found on Sunday morning. Her call records showed that she was with a friend named Chand Alam the previous night. Alam was arrested from Okhla in New Delhi.
The Times of India has quoted the police as saying that the accused told them that he came in contact with Jharna in 2015 while working in an export company. They began seeing each other. Alam began giving her Rs 6,000 every month for expenses, on her request.
Recently, Alam suspected that Jharna had come close to another colleague named Suraj. They had quarrels over it several times.
Alam hatched a plan to kill her.
On Saturday night, Alam met Jharna at the Badarpur bus stop. He took her to an abandoned quarter near the railway track. There, he stabbed her in the neck with a pair of scissors.
Hindustan Times has quoted Esha Pandey, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), south-east, as saying that the scissors were kept in Jharna’s bag as she worked as a tailor. Alam knew about the scissors and reached for them as soon as he decided to kill her.
Alam disposed of the weapon in a drain, but call records of Jharna’s phone led the police to Alam.
