Few temples in the world convey as much grandeur and majesty as the great Chola temples of Tamil Nadu. The legacy of stone-temple building by the Pallavas was inherited well by the Chola emperors – for a period of over three centuries, these emperors and artisans sustained what could arguably be India’s greatest and grandest temple construction programmes.
Come, join us for a three-day tour of the Great Living Chola Temples this Republic Day long weekend. The tour of the Chola temples will bring us face-to-face with some of the finest temple architectures India has ever produced.
The tour will cover three UNESCO-nominated Great Chola Living Temples – the eleventh- and twelfth-century Brihadisvara Temple at Thanjavur, the Brihadisvara Temple at Gangaikondacholapuram and the Airavatesvara Temple at Darasuram. The grand structures are home to paintings, sculptures and inscriptions of immense historical value.
On this journey, we will also visit Shri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam. These shrines are visited by a large number of pilgrims and travelers because of the religious significance they hold. If time permits, we will also visit off-themed attractions like Maratha Palace Museum and have evening walks in Kumbhakonam, enjoying the scenic nature.
