The government on Saturday (2 April) said that it has auctioned five coal mines in four states under the fourth tranche of commercial auction.
"The Ministry of Coal had launched the Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) for the auction of coal mines for commercial mining under the 14th tranche of CM(SP) Act, 2015, and fourth tranche of MMDR Act, 1957 on 16 December 2021," an official release said.
During the e-auction conducted on the MSTC platform on 31 March and 1 April, cumulatively five CMSP coal mines were put up for auction, the Coal Ministry said in a release.
The five coal mines are located in Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Odisha.
The Jindal Steel and Power Limited has won the bid for three coal mines (one in Chhattisgarh and two in Odisha), while Twenty First Century Mining Private Limited and BS Ispat Limited got one mine each in Jharkhand and Maharashtra respectively.
The ministry further said that under the commercial coal mining auction process, a total of 47 coal mines, including the above five coal mines auctioned in tranche-4, have been successfully auctioned so far with a total cumulative PRC (peak rate capacity) of 101.440 million tonne per annum.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
