The central government has announced that the second edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam, celebrating the cultural links between Tamil Nadu and Kashi, would be held from 17 December to 30 December.
17 December is the first day of the Tamil month of Margazhi.
Registrations for the programme have been opened by IIT Madras. Around 1400 people from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to make the 8-day trip. There would be seven groups comprising 200 people each, i.e., students, teachers, farmers & artisans, traders & businessmen, religious, writers, professionals, each named after a holy river.
Apart from Kashi, the groups would travel to Ayodhya and Prayagraj.
They would visit places of religious, cultural, and historical interest and interact with a variety of people like weavers, artisans, writers, and entrepreneurs, according to the press release by the government.
Further, it stated that the previous edition was held from 16 November to 16 December 2022 and around 2500 people from different walks of life travelled to take part in the Sangamam.
While the Ministry of Education has been named as the nodal ministry, it would be assisted by other ministries such as the Ministry of Culture, Information and Broadcasting and Railways and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. IIT Madras and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) would assist in capitalising on the learnings during the Sangamam.
