Indian Army's Artillery Regiments To Get 4x4 And 6x6 Trucks For Towing Artillery Guns; To Be Delivered Over 12 Months

Indian Army has ordered high mobility trucks worth Rs 800 crore from Ashok Leyland.
The contract includes procurement of a varied number of 4x4 field artillery tractor and 6x6 gun towing vehicles to tow heavy as well as medium artillery guns and howitzers of the Indian Army.
The 4x4 FAT and 6x6 Gun towing vehicle, both features in Ministry of Defence's (MoD) positive indigenisation list. The equipments mentioned in the positive indigenisation list are barred from import from foreign manufacturers by the armed forces.
The 6x6 gin towing vehicle is rated to tow a maximum of 8 tonnes. It comes with a 2.7 tonne crane for loading and unloading ammunitions and a 10 tonne winch for self-recovery.
Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ashok Leyland, Shenu Agrawal said, "The Defence business has been a strong pillar of growth for us, and this win further establishes our leadership in defence mobility vehicles business".
"This is also a testament to our firm commitment to providing advanced mobility solutions for our armed forces. We are grateful for the trust placed in Ashok Leyland by the government of India, and we remain dedicated to contributing to the country’s indigenisation efforts and self-reliance in defense manufacturing,” Agrawal further said.
The order is expected to be executed in the next one year.
