Adani Ports and SEZ's joint venture in Mundra, known as Adani International Container Terminal Private Limited (AICTPL), marked a significant milestone as it became India's first terminal to manage 300,000 containers within a month, in November.
The company, in a filing, called it a “remarkable accomplishment” and significant achievement for APSEZ as well as a historic event in Indian maritime history, reports Business Today.
This set a new national record, as the terminal handled 300,431 TEUs across 97 vessels, surpassing its previous record of 298,634 TEUs in March 2021.
TEUs or ‘twenty-foot equivalent unit’ is a measure of volume in units of twenty-foot-long containers.
Additionally, two other ports under APSEZ, namely Dhamra and Ennore, also witnessed their highest monthly volumes, managing 3.96 million metric tonnes (MMT) and 65,658 TEUs respectively.
APSEZ exhibited a robust growth reporting 42 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) increase in cargo volumes, reaching 36 MMT.
From April to November in the current financial year (FY), the company handled 275 MMT of cargo, marking a 21 per cent Y-o-Y increase and including over 70 per cent of its anticipated full-year range of 370-390 MMT.
As per reports, Adani Ports achieved double-digit Y-o-Y growth in three major cargo categories. This includes dry bulk with over 60 per cent Y-o-Y growth, liquids and gas with over 23 per cent growth, and containers with 26 per cent Y-o-Y growth during the current FY.
Further, the group’s flagship Mundra Port has set another record by handling 16.1 million tonnes of cargo in October, the highest-ever volume by any port in India, reports Economic Times.
These recorded numbers not only reinforce APSEZ and Mundra Port's leadership in the maritime sector but also underscore their operational excellence, the company added.
