Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Wednesday (24 July) that the Centre has allocated Rs 9,151 crore for railway projects in Andhra Pradesh as part of the Budget 2024-25.

Minister stated that the allocated funds would be used for new lines, doubling works, station development, infrastructure improvement, and enhancing passenger amenities.

He highlighted that various railway projects worth approximately Rs 74,000 crore are at different stages of implementation across the state. Additionally, 73 railway stations are being developed under the Amrit Bharat Stations Scheme.

Key projects to be undertaken with the new budget include the Kotipalli-Narsapur section, a third line between Vijayawada and Gudur, the Machilipatnam-Narsapur new line, and the construction of third and fourth lines between Nidadavole and Duvvada, among others.

Addressing the establishment of the South Coast Railway Zone (Visakhapatnam Railway Zone), Vaishnaw mentioned that the land offered by the state government has issues related to backwaters. He urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to allocate suitable land for the project, reports The Hindu.

The Amaravati station, located on the Yerrupalli-Nambur new line in the Guntur railway division, is also in progress. The Railway Board and NITI-Aayog have approved a detailed project report for the new station.

The 56.53-km new line, which includes a bridge over the Krishna River, is estimated to cost Rs 2,047 crore. "The project is very important for Andhra Pradesh, and top priority is being given to the new line," Vaishnaw added.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM-Vijayawada) Narendra A. Patil announced that 100 per cent electrification of railway lines has been achieved in the state.
