The airport in Bengaluru, Karnataka, is set to host a junction or integration point for various transportation modes, thus making connectivity easy.

In the vein of Zurich (Switzerland) and Heathrow (London, England) airports, the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will turn into a multimodal transport hub (MMTH), according to a report in Moneycontrol.

The hub is in "its advanced stages of construction" and "expected to be completed soon," with certain sections already completed, a spokesperson for the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates KIA, told the financial portal.

Private car parking, taxi services, and buses operated by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will all be made available under a common airport "roof," and all this will in turn be connected to the upcoming Bengaluru airport metro.

The truly distinguishing factor is the "one roof" bit, since some other airports too have different transport options in the vicinity, but these options aren't all situated at one, easibly accessible place.

The MMTH, which will stretch out roughly across 1.39 lakh square metres, will be separated from Terminals 1 and 2 by 800 metres (m) and 100 m respectively, according to the report.

Both the terminals will be connected by shuttle buses operated by BIAL. A walkway will connect the MMTH to the airport metro station.

While Phase 1 of the MMTH is likely to be operational in a couple of months, Phase 2 and the KIA terminals metro station (KR Puram-Hebbal-KIA metro corridor) will take another three years.
