  • The overall network with the construction for this line is proposed to serve as a link between the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi and the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar.
  • The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started the work on preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for development of metro line between the New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) and Knowledge Park-II in Greater Noida.

This particular corridor will spread over a distance of approximately 37 km, with 3 km expected to be underground and the remaining 34 km to be an elevated corridor. The projected line will have six stations.

This development has come after the DMRC and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in December 2022, for the preparation of the full project report for the projected development of this metro rail link.

In January 2023, the DMRC had previously called for bids for the topographical survey and geotechnical survey works, with a 45-day deadline, in order to assist in the preparation of the DPR.

This line is a component of a larger proposed network of metro connectivity linking different areas of Greater Noida and Delhi.

The overall network with the construction for this line is proposed to serve as a link between the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi and the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar.

The Jewar Airport is located 72 kilometres from New Delhi Airport.

The metro connectivity will be built in two phases.

Apart from the above-mentioned line to link New Delhi Railway Station to Knowledge Park-II, the other phase to be developed will be a link between Knowledge Park-II and the Jewar Airport.

Upon completion of the two phases, this metro line will have an estimated total of 13 stations between the Jewar Airport and New Delhi Railway Station.

From New Delhi Railway Station, there is already a connecting link to the Airport Express for IGI airport in Delhi.

This proposed rail connection can be seen as part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s plan to provide last-mile metro connectivity to the Noida International Airport.

Shailendra Bhatia, YEIDA’s officer on special duty said the plan is to provide hassle-free connectivity to passengers between the two — IGI and Noida — airports.

Trains operating on this corridor will have the capability to travel at a speed of 120 km per hour.

This will enable the residents of Noida and Greater Noida to travel between the Noida International Airport and New Delhi Railway Station in less than an hour.
