Public Investment Board has cleared the 28.5-km-long metro corridor in Gurugram.
The proposed corridor starts from HUDA City Centre and joins Rapid Metro at Cyber City.
Haryana CM has already approved a metro rail corridor from Rezang La Chowk in Gurugram up to Sector-21 in Dwarka to improve connectivity to Delhi's IGI Airport.
Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal on Friday said the Public Investment Board has cleared the 28.5-km-long metro corridor between HUDA City Centre and Cyber City in Gurugram.
Kaushal applauded the efforts made by the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) team for getting the project cleared from the Board.
"It (project) will cover the entire city of Gurugram," an official statement quoting Kaushal said.
The metro rail projects are approved after due process which includes inter-ministerial consultation and approval of the Public Investment Board, Government of India.
He said it would give an efficient and environment-friendly transport system to the public of Haryana especially those living in Gurugram and its vicinity.
Kaushal further said the corridor from Rezang La Chowk in Gurugram up to Sector-21 in Dwarka has already been approved by the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and is also being further sent to Government of India for approval.
"It will also give seamless connectivity from Gurugram to the IGI Airport," he said.
Gurugram’s metro expansion
The proposed corridor starts from HUDA City Centre and joins Rapid Metro at Cyber City, Gurugram. It also includes a 2.2 km long spur near Basai village to connect Dwarka Expressway.
Alignment of the corridor includes HUDA City Centre - Subhash Chowk - Basai Village - Sector‐5 - Udyog Vihar Phase‐V - connectivity with rapid metro at Cyber city.

On the spur, one elevated station namely Sector‐101 has been proposed near the junction of Dwarka Expressway. This station will have integration with the station of the proposed MRTS Corridor of HSIIDC along Dwarka Expressway.
In addition to this metro corridor, Gurugram may soon get the RRTS Corridor as proposed by NCRTC between Delhi and Alwar via Gurugram.
Also RITES proposed two additional metro corridors crisscrossing Gurugram.
An emerging mega city
Gurugram is a satellite city of Delhi located in Haryana and is part of the National Capital Region of India. It is 32 km southwest of New Delhi and 268 km south of Chandigarh, the state capital.
The City has been growing rapidly due to large scale urbanisation and economic activities. Today, it has become a hub of multinational companies, industry giants, call centres, software companies, shopping malls and skyscrapers.
The level of rapid urbanisation in Gurugram can be gauged from the fact that the city’s population has increased by four times between 2001 and 2011 from 2.1 lakh to 8.7 lakh.
