Groundwork on the 31-kilometre Hyderabad Airport Metro Express project is set to begin in September, with completion expected in three years, according to Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) managing director N V S Reddy on Wednesday (14 June).
The Telangana government will fund the entire Rs 6,250 crore project, with a 10 per cent contribution each from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and the GMR Hyderabad International Airport, Shamshabad.
Technical teams from 13 national and international companies, including L&T, Alstom, Siemens, Tata Projects, IRCON, RVNL, BEML, PANDROL Rahee technologies, and others, attended the meeting that was held in response to the global tenders invited for the selection of the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor for the project.
The majority of the preliminary work, such as surveying, peg marking, alignment fixation, and so on, has been accomplished, and soil testing is underway.
According to the most recent survey and alignment fixing, the distance between the Raidurg metro station and Airport terminal station will be 29.3 km elevated and 1.7 km underground.
It will include nine stations, one of which will be underground and located near the airport terminal.
The prospective bidders' questions on the civil structures, rolling stock (trains), signalling and train control systems, performance indices, technical specifications, and so on were thoroughly examined at the meeting.
Reddy emphasised that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Minister for Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao are directly monitoring the progress of the project and hence, the timelines decided by the government by the selected EPC has to be maintained, reports The Hindu.
The airport corridor will connect Mindspace junction near Raidurg Metro station and the city’s international airport located at Shamshabad after traversing along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) of the city.
The Airport Metro will connect the city to the airport and other major areas, such as the IT hub of Hitec City, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, Narsingi, Kokapet etc.
The foundation stone for the project was laid by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on 9 December last year.
The Airport Metro will reduce travel time from the city to the airport by up to 50 per cent. The metro is expected to take just 20 minutes to connect the airport to the main city.
Biodiversity junction, Nanakramguda, Narsingi, TS Police Academy, Rajendranagar, Shamshabad, Airport Cargo station and terminal are expected to be few of the stations.
