Indian Railways will launch two Vande Bharat Sleeper trains simultaneously, marking a major step in long-distance semi-high-speed travel, Indian Express reported.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the introduction will take place only after the second train is fully ready for service.
“The second train is being manufactured and will possibly be ready by October 15, 2025. Both the trains will be launched together. The second train is important to maintain continuity of regular services,” Vaishnaw said, news agency PTI reported.
The first rake, unveiled in September 2024, has already completed trials and testing and is stationed at Delhi’s Shakur Basti Coaching Depot.
It is ready for induction.
Once the second rake is received, routes will be finalised and operations will begin.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper has been designed to operate at a maximum speed of 180 kmph, making it among the fastest sleeper services ever introduced by Indian Railways.
While existing Vande Bharat chair car services have become popular on shorter routes, the sleeper version is expected to reshape long-distance travel by combining speed with comfort.
The train offers a range of upgraded amenities aimed at enhancing the passenger experience.
These include integrated reading lights with USB charging ports, modular pantries for improved catering, public announcement and visual information systems, and CCTV cameras for added security.
Special berths and toilets have been provided for differently-abled travellers, ensuring inclusivity.
First AC coaches will even feature hot-water showers, underlining the comfort-focused design.
Inside display panels, clean interiors, and thoughtfully designed berths will make the travel experience more convenient for all classes of passengers.
Railway officials said the new train will significantly enhance the experience of medium and long-distance travel, combining speed with upgraded onboard facilities.
