The Indian Railways will launch the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express ahead of Diwali 2025, connecting Delhi and Patna via Prayagraj, reported CNBC TV 18.

This premium overnight train will cut travel time to 11.5 hours, compared with the usual 12–17 hours, and far quicker than the 23 hours Rajdhani Express takes on the same route.

Unlike existing chair-car Vande Bharat trains designed for daytime journeys, the sleeper model will specifically cater to long-distance overnight travel.

Built with Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) advanced Integral Coach Factory (ICF) technology, the train can reach 180 km/h and promises flight-like comfort at train fares.

The train will feature CCTV cameras, LED information screens, automatic sensor-based doors, modern fire safety systems, on-board announcements, and aircraft-style interiors. Officials say these upgrades deliver a premium yet affordable experience.

According to the proposed schedule, the train will leave Patna at 8 pm and arrive in Delhi by 7:30 am. The return trip will follow a similar timetable. Fares are expected to be 10–15 per cent higher than Rajdhani Express, but officials argue that faster travel and modern amenities justify the price.

Compared to flights, the service offers a more pocket-friendly alternative without compromising on comfort.

Since its launch in 2019, the Vande Bharat series has become a flagship of Indian Railways, now operating on seven routes. With the sleeper version, the government aims to strengthen long-distance connectivity. More variants are already planned, reflecting a broader modernisation drive.

The Delhi–Patna corridor, among India’s busiest, especially during festivals, will benefit from reduced congestion, enhanced regional connectivity, and stronger business and tourism links across north India.
