Indian Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today (15 April) revealed plans to unveil Vande Metro by December 2023. The new metro system is set to connect many major cities and offer an inexpensive mode of transportation to passengers.
The Vande Metro will connect major cities under 100 kilometres via a short-distance metro network, according to the Union Minister.
Vaishnaw stated that Vande Metro will alleviate congestion on local trains and will be operational in December.
The Minister also discussed Indian Railways' upcoming "High-Speed Test Track." The track aims to speed up the development of high-speed trains by allowing for testing at high speeds.
Features Of The Vande Metro
Vande Metro will operate between cities separated by less than 100 kilometres. Frequency of these trains will be between 4 to 5 times a day, providing a rapid shuttle like experience.
The trains will have eight coaches similar to metro train, while regular Vande Bharat trains will eventually have 16 cars.
The new metro system will offer efficient travel for students and job seekers, saving them valuable time, the Minister said.
The Integral Coach Factory in Chennai and the RDSO in Lucknow, have been instructed by the Ministry to swiftly produce rakes for the eight-car Vande metro trains.
