The Patna ring road project has cleared a major hurdle with the official approval of the 25 km Sarai (Vaishali) to Naya Gaon (Saran) section.
The green light was given during a meeting between Bihar’s Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena and the Union Road Transport and Highways Secretary, reported Times of India.
With this approval, the 137 km ring road, estimated to cost Rs 1,300 crore has been targeted for completion by 2028.
The approval was reportedly granted on 22 August.
“The ring road is now starting to take shape. It will be a major step forward in easing congestion and enhancing connectivity in and around Patna,” Meena was quoted as saying by ToI.
He also noted that the corridor will connect Vaishali and Saran districts while intersecting with 12 national highways and five state highways.
“This means travellers coming from Gaya and heading to Muzaffarpur or other districts will not need to enter Patna,” he added.
The plan features two six-lane bridges across the Ganga.
Progress on several segments is already visible.
The 39 km Kanhauli–Ramnagar stretch has been completed, while work is underway on the 13 km Ramnagar–Kachhi Dargah section.
Work on the 19.5 km Kachhi Dargah–Bidupur bridge is advancing, with the first phase to Raghopur finished and the second phase expected to conclude this year.
From Bidupur, the road will stretch 31 km towards Naya Gaon via Sarai and Astipur, though its DPR and land acquisition are pending.
A four-lane upgrade on the 11 km Naya Gaon–Dighwara section of NH-19 is in progress, while the a six-lane Dighwara–Sherpur bridge is being executed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The final 9 km link from Sherpur to Kanhauli will complete the ring, with bids already invited.
