Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate, dedicate to nation and lay the foundation stone of projects worth around Rs 5,800 crore in multiple sectors like rail, road, drinking water and irrigation during his two-day Gujarat visit from 30 October.

The projects include the New Bhandu-New Sanand section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC); doubling of Viramgam-Samakhiali rail line and Katosan Road-Bechraji-Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL Siding) Rail Project.

The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), is a special purpose vehicle established under the administrative control of the Ministry of Railways.

DFCCIL is mandated for the development, construction, operation and maintenance of the Eastern and Western dedicated freight corridors, aimed at enhancing freight transportation capabilities in India.

DFCCIL is at an advanced stage of completion. At present, 2,486 km — 87.4 per cent of a total length of 2,843 km has been commissioned. The DFCCIL project has picked up momentum post 2014-15 with expeditious land acquisition, contract finalisation and continuous support by the Ministry of Railways.

It includes 1,149 km in WDFC and entire EDFC of 1,337 km. More than 95 per cent of the total DFC will be completed by March, 2024.

As on October 2023, more than 1.35 lakh trains have already traversed the DFC network since commissioning of the first section.

There are about 77,000 freight trains that have moved on the EDFC, while approximately 58,000 trains have moved on the WDFC.

The projects whose foundation stone will be laid by the Prime Minister include the project for providing irrigation facilities in Santrampur taluka of Mahisagar District; widening and strengthening of Naroda-Dehgam-Harsol-Dhansura Road, Sabarkantha; project for Kalol Nagarpalika sewerage and septage management in Gandhinagar District; and projects for sewage treatment plants in Siddhpur (Patan), Palanpur (Banaskantha), Bayad (Aravalli) and Vadnagar (Mehsana).

With a view to further boost the spirit of preserving and strengthening the unity, integrity and security of the country, a historic decision was taken under the leadership of the Prime Minister to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.

Prime Minister will participate in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas programme on 31 October and pay tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

He will witness the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Parade which will comprise of marching contingents from Border Security Force (BSF) and various state police contingents.
