Soon the devotees of God Shiva will be able to visit the Kedarnath temple with more comfort and in less time as the process of building a ropeway to this Hindu holy shrine has begun.

The Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for ropeways to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib are ready.

Tourism plays a vital role in providing employment and income to the people of Uttarakhand. In 2019, this hill state recorded 37 million domestic tourist arrivals showing the urgent need to provide better connectivity.

The union government plans to build ropeway lines across the state to increase connectivity, particularly at the main tourist sites.

Some ropeway projects taken up by National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) are Sonprayag-Gaurikund-Kedarnath, Govind ghat-Ghangaria-Hemkund, Rani bagh to Hanuman temple in Nainital, Panchkoti - BaUradi (New Tehri), Munsiyari to Khaliya Top, Rishikesh to Neelkanth and Auli to Gorson.

Among the projects mentioned above, the forest land transfer process for Sonprayag-Gaurikund-Kedarnath and Govind ghat-Ghangaria-Hemkund ropeway projects has begun, reports Amar Ujala.

The length of the Sonprayag-Gaurikund-Kedarnath ropeway project will be 13 km, and the estimated cost of the project will be over Rs 985 crore.

Set to be the longest ropeway in the world at an altitude of 11,500 feet above sea level, it will significantly reduce the time taken by pilgrims to reach the Kedarnath shrine in Rudraprayag district. The ropeway will enable them to travel from Sonprayag to Kedarnath in 60 minutes.
