Director of Bangladesh's paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General (Maj Gen) Md Shafeenul Islam on Saturday (4 January) announced the return of over 445 Bangladeshi nationals from India in the past two months alone, reports Financial Express.

Maj Gen Islam held a press briefing yesterday in which he disclosed the figure while also sharing that the BGB had in all of 2019 arrested about 1,000 Bangladeshi citizens trying to cross the international border and enter India.

Meanwhile, hailing India's Border Security Force (BSF), Maj Gen Islam said that the BSF has been following a policy of maximum restraint and minimal usage of force even after being attacked by the border offenders.

Maj Gen Islam who had said last week that to hold an NRC exercise was India's internal matter also underscored that the trespassing by Bangladeshi nationals had not led to any tension between the border forces of the two nations.
