The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been given the green light by the Centre to prosecute Delhi Health Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendra Kumar Jain in a disproportionate assets case, reports All India Radio News.

The case had been first registered by the CBI in August 2017 after it was alleged that while in office, the minister had amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income between February 2015 and May 2017. Between the said period, Jain had accumulated assets amounting to about Rs 1.62 crores from unknown sources.

In its enquiry, the CBI uncovered that Jain and his associates had used shell companies in Delhi to launder up to Rs 4.63 crores in 2015-16. Over the last five years, Jain had also purchased agricultural land to the tune of 200 bighas through the companies under his control, the CBI revealed.

Moreover, prior to his stint as a minister in the AAP government, Jain was also allegedly responsible for laundering about Rs 11.78 crores through his shell companies in the 2011-12 period.
