Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for Covid-19 and has withdrawn from the national team, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) said on Tuesday.
The news comes two days after Ronaldo took part in Portugal's previous Nations League game against France. The FPF said in a statement, which it has released on its website, that the Juventus forward was asymptomatic and in isolation. "
Following the positive case, the remaining players underwent new tests this Tuesday morning, all with a negative result, and are available to [coach] Fernando Santos for training this afternoon, in Cidade do Futebol," said the FPF.
The 35-year-old attacker was due to face Sweden with his national side on Wednesday in UEFA Nations League. It is set to be played at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon, the home ground of Ronaldo's boyhood club Sporting CP.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
