The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has opened the Manali-Keylong road in Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal for vehicular traffic on Tuesday (21 May), reports ANI. Due to heavy snowfall during the winter season, the road remains closed cutting off the residents of the Lahaul-Spiti from the rest of the state.
According to the report, dozens of vehicles were seen plying through the highway after its opening for the traffic.
As per a Tribune report, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) conducted a bus trial between Manali and Keylong via Rohtang on Monday (20 May). During the trial, the HRTC observed that there was need to widen the road at many places for smooth traffic. Following this, the BRO started further clearing of the snow.
The HRTC will start running two buses between Keylong and Manali, and two others between Manali and Keylong from today (22 May).
Earlier, on 19 May, the BRO had also re-opened the 13,050 feet high Rohtang Pass for movement of small vehicles, giving a sigh of relief to residents of the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
