As per local media, newly sworn in Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has resigned from the post ahead of the floor test in the state assembly scheduled to be held tomorrow, reports News18.
Although the BJP-led government has not officially commented on the same, a press conference is slated for 3.30 PM today in which Chief Minister Fadnavis will speak to media persons regarding recent developments in the state.
The resignation of Ajit Pawar from the deputy chief minister’s post is an unwelcome sign for the BJP ahead of the crucial floor test tomorrow, as it was him who the party was counting on to lend support with enough NCP MLAs so that a majority could be established in the state assembly.
The Supreme Court has directed that the floor test be conducted by 5 pm tomorrow, and the BJP’s coalition will need to show that it has at least 145 MLAs to prove its majority. On its own the party has 105 MLAs.
