The official twitter account of the Ahmedabad Airport on Saturday (21 March) busted the lies of an international flyer who alleged that he was not subjected to any Covid-19 screening at the airport.
The flyer named Abhimanyu alleged that even though he returned back from Toronto today at 3 AM, he was not subjected to any coronavirus related screening including thermal checks. He added that the authorities merely asked him to file a self-declaration form assuring two week home isolation.
The tweet soon went viral - generating over 2,100 retweets. Many as a result expressed fears over Covid-19 passengers passing unchecked due to the lack of proper screening.
The Ahmedabad Airport authorities though soon swung into action by denying Abhimanyu’s allegations and providing proof to falsify his allegations.
Mr. Abhimanyu: Airport officials are putting their lives on risk to support the Society. Your statement is inappropriate and hurting. You deplaned on EY288 today at 0244 hrs & Infrared Thermal scanned at 0248 hrs. Please do not spread panic in Society and be a responsible citizen pic.twitter.com/btRjVwNnyM

The airport authorities said that Abhimanyu deplaned from Ethiad Airways flight EY288 at 2.44 AM and was subjected to an infrared thermal scan at 2.48 AM. The airport also attached photographic evidence of him undergoing the scan.
It later also shared CCTV footage of him undergoing the scan.

After the tweets by the airport authorities, Abhimanyu backtracked.
Thank you so much for this. It seemed like mere eye checking. I apologize for my earlier tweet, and have deleted it.

While replying both to the tweet and the video he said that the thermal screening seemed like a “mere eye scan” and thanked the authorities for their response.
He later also apologised while tagging the Prime Minister’s office and said he will be more careful in the future.
