The first three coaches Ahmedabad Metro Project have arrived in the city on Tuesday (1 January), reports Metro Rail News.
These coaches were shipped from South Korea in the first week of December and had arrived at Mundra Port on 28 December, according to the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) officials.
The metro train, with a carrying capacity of 90 passengers, will make its trial run from 15 January. It will be then cleared for the safety following which the state government will decide on the date of inauguration, which is expected to be done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The train would be rolled onto the 6 km elevated corridor between Vastral Gam and Apparel Park in Maninagar by March end or April. The stretch, apart from Vastral Gam and Apparel Park, will have four other stations - Nirant Crossroads, Vastral, Rabari Colony and Amraiwadi.
Apparel to Shahpur section of the metro service will be underground. The mock coach of the Ahmedabad metro has been on public display at the riverfront since its arrival in October.
The second train is expected to arrive by the end of March, or early April, according to officials. They added that the authorities are also planning to start the second stretch (APMC-Motera) by April this year.
