The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, has released a list of books by Indian authors and publishers for all levels of graduate engineering programme, Indian Express reported.
The list of books, to be developed by an expert committee of academicians from institutes including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), is said to be in accordance with the model prepared by AICTE.
The University Grants Commission (UGC), through an official circular, has also promoted the use of such books by students and faculty across Indian engineering colleges and universities. The circular was in response to the AICTE’s letter to UGC asking it to promote the list of Indian authors (created by AICTE).
“It is hoped that this list will draw on Indian experience and context to facilitate better learning of concepts and in turn improve quality,” states UGC in its circular.
AICTE has also invited suggestions from industry on topics to be included in engineering education to make engineers more ’employable’.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
