Actor Akshay Kumar on Saturday (28 March) pledged Rs 25 crore from his personal savings for the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES Fund) which will be used towards India’s battle against coronavirus.
While quoting Prime Minister Modi’s appeal for donations to the fund, Kumar said that, “This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes”, before announcing his decision to contribute Rs 25 crore.

Citizens can contribute to the PM-CARES fund via various online transfer options like NEFT, UPI, Credit-Debit cards. The UPI id for the fund is pmcares@sbi and other details can be availed at the official website of the Prime Minister.
The PM-CARES Fund accepts micro-donations too. It will strengthen disaster management capacities and encourage research on protecting citizens.

This fund was constituted after the Prime Minister’s Office received many requests for supporting the government in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
As a result public charitable trust under the name of Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund) was set-up. Prime Minister Modi is the Chairman of this trust and its Members include Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister.
