Congress Social Media Head Divya Spandana, an appointee of the former party president Rahul Gandhi has been replaced by Rohan Gupta on Saturday (28 September). The move comes just ahead of crucial state assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana to be held on 21 October.
Rohan Gupta is from Ahmedabad and is close to party treasurer and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Ahmed Patel. Rohan tweeted after the announcement, "My heartfelt thanks to Soniaji and Rahul Gandhiji for giving this responsibility."
Rohan Gupta was appointed Media co-ordinator in AICC media cell in 2016. Prior to this assignment, he was Head of the IT cell of Gujarat Congress. Meanwhile, Divya Spandana is a close aide of Rahul Gandhi.
After Sonia Gandhi took over as interim President on 10 August, the axis of old guards has taken over the party. This is evident from a series of decisions taken by Sonia Gandhi which has irked the young turks of the party.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
