More than 80 tonnes of materials for construction of an important bridge over Kumey river in China-bordering Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh has been airlifted by the helicopters of the Indian Air Force (IAF), said defence sources on Tuesday (12 February), Economic Times has reported.
According to the report, Shillong-based IAF Public Relations Officer (PRO) Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh informed that Mi-17 helicopters of the air force airlifted the materials on Monday (11 February).
The bridge is being executed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and would connect the settlements of Huri outpost with Damin circle of the China-bordering district.
Due to the strategic importance of the bridge, it would play a significant role in easing the inconvenience caused to people in the region as well as the troops deployed in this remote part of the easternmost state of India.
In order to expedite the process of construction of the bridge, the IAF is assisting the BRO in carrying the load by means of its helicopters.
The BRO, with an aim to connect inaccessible areas of Arunachal Pradesh, is engaged in undertaking massive construction of roads and bridges in the remote areas of the state.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
