Union Minister Babul Supriyo struck a chord with the Asansol electorate to become its Member of Parliament for the second consecutive time after defeating Trinamool’s celebrity candidate Moon Moon Sen by over 1.74 lakh votes.
Supriyo garnered a vote share of 51.14 per cent by polling 632,727 votes as compared to the runners up Moon Moon Sen who polled 435,584 with a voting share of 35.21 per cent.
Moon Moon Sen had made news recently after giving the excuse that she woke up late when asked about the political violence against BJP workers in Asansol. She was later caught abusing a TV anchor for asking tough questions.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
