In an ambitious plan, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is said to be formulating a scheme whereby the poor households in both rural and urban areas would be provided with induction stoves.
The Power Ministry is said to be keen on this scheme as it would enable a reduction in the import of fossil fuels while also stimulating electricity demand. A fresh demand for electricity is expected to lead to better utilization of currently underutilized power plants. The Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya) scheme’s implementation is expected to result in the transfer of induction stoves to the poor households in the country.
The Saubhagya scheme combined with the Central Government push to electrify four crore rural and urban households by December 2018 is expected to provide for a boost to the struggling power sector by ensuring a rapid increase in demand for electricity across the country.
